From a book to a movement.

Genuinely, original, surprising and inspiring ideas don’t come along that often. Be More Pirate is all of this and more. Be More Pirate is going to be much bigger than a book.
— - Luke Hyams, Head of Originals for YouTube

Be More Pirate is the debut book by Sam Conniff, published in 2018 by Penguin Random House. In the year that followed its publication, thousands of modern ‘pirates’ from around the world have brought the ideas to life with their own rebellions.

From financiers to farmers, CEOs to students, Mercedes to the NHS, this is a movement for anyone who wants to shake things up. The network that has grown around the book recognises that too many of the rules, norms and conventions that uphold our systems and business models no longer serve people and planet; we need to create new ones.

Being more pirate is a shift in your mindset; a willingness to think differently, to challenge and be challenged, and to stop asking for permission to do what you know is right. All the stories and insights from our movement have been captured in a new book: ‘How to: Be More Pirate’ out 24 September 2020

Alex joined Sam in 2019 to give life to Be More Pirate as something beyond a book. Before piracy she was Communications Manager at the RSA (Royal Society of Arts), and has spent a decade or so in the non-profit sector building networks and supporting social entrepreneurs. Alex leads the network and would like nothing more than to see a less conventional approach to social change take root.
